Males can keep up on fashion too

By Sara O'Dacre

Spring has finally arrived and it is becoming quite obvious by the sharp, fresh styles worn by the male students around campus.

Sheila Furlong, a part-time studies fashion design co-ordinator at the college, said she is seeing a lot of fashionable males sporting messenger bags, construction boots and plaid prints for the new spring season. She's noticed a lot of eco-awareness clothing too, detailed with natural fabrics, earth tones and shades of blue.

"And flip flops too, are they ever popular," she added.

Furlong said she's seeing more males hanging out between classes wearing bright hooded sweatshirts and sassy sport jackets.

"I also am seeing aviator glasses, those are cool," said Furlong.

Furlong said when it comes to male fashion for the spring season, she appreciates the vintage ‘60s look.
"I like tapered pants, rather than the flare. I like the Beatles look, and I like the look of a dress shirt with a light pattern with a suit jacket," she said.

For places to shop this spring for fashionable males, Furlong suggests Mexx, Gap, Le Chateau, Club Monaco, and Guess.

Jonathan Bickram, a business administration student at Algonquin, said his own personal style is laid back and relaxed, even when it comes to dressing up.

"I don't really pay attention to trends, I dress how I want," said Bickram.

He said he thinks chain wallets will be in style for males on campus for spring 2008.

"A couple of my buddies have them. But then, these things come and go all the time," said Bickram of the new style trends.

Second-year security management student Nelio Di Cola describes his personal style as preppy, and said he likes to dress "to look good."

He said he thinks males at school should be looking to wear lighter colours and fabrics for the new spring season.

Di Cola's celebrity style icon is David Beckham, because of his talent for putting together cool outfits.

"He's not crazy with it, but he's outgoing. He has a really good sense of style, and it probably comes from his wife," said Di Cola.
