Argument results in banning of non student from college property Security staff saw two males at the C-Building main entrance traffic circle involved in an aggressive argument at 12:15 p.m. on Jan. 5. The argument started as a result of a traffic dispute and escalated to a point where security had to prevent one of the males from assaulting the other. As a result, the one non-student was banned from all Algonquin College property. Powerade drinks stolen from gymnasium Security was asked to attend the gymnasium Dec. 19 at 7:40 p.m. where they were informed by the gymnasium staff that two males stole Powerade drinks from the reception desk vending machine. One of the males involved was a non-student. He was located and interviewed by security. As a result, he was banned from all college property. Residence evacuated after false alarm An unknown person deliberately activated a pull station on the third floor of the residence building near stairwell A just after midnight on Jan. 10. The building was fully evacuated and the fire department arrived promptly. The occupants were allowed to return to the building at 12:30 a.m. No suspects are in custody. Computer equipment stolen from B310 On Jan. 13, ITS staff reported an IBM laptop, computer, and a Sony data projector stolen from B310. The equipment was part of a COW (Computer On Wheels). ITS was encouraged to report the theft to the Ottawa police. Security continues to investigate. Locker broken in to, textbooks stolen in B-building A student reported on Jan. 13, that her locker on the second floor of B-building was broken into and a microeconomics textbook, and a marketing and communications textbook were stolen. The theft occurred between 9 and 1 p.m. The student was encouraged to report the incident to police. It is not known whether the incident was reported. Student’s bag stolen from parking lot A student reported on Jan. 7, that a bag which contained personal medication and make-up was stolen from her vehicle parked in Lot 12. The theft occurred between 12 and 3 p.m. Driver struck picketer at Woodroffe Park-and-Ride On January 7, 2009 at approx 8:32 am, the Ottawa Police Service responded to a report of a collision at the entrance of the park and ride on Woodroffe Ave. A 53 year-old woman, who was picketing at that location, was struck and dragged by a vehicle as it drove into the parking lot from the exit entrance. The woman did not sustain any injuries. The male driver of the vehicle was arrested at the scene but released unconditionally pending further investigation. On January 9, 2009, the Ottawa Police charged Thomas Chandler-De Faye, 26-year-old of Ottawa, with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. Chandler-De Faye will appear in court on January 26th, 2009. |
