If you are reading this you have probably already missed out.

Missed out on what you ask?

The fun filled, sometimes highly competitive, and very accessible Algonquin recreational league.

“The league does get a little intense, mostly in soccer and floor hockey,” said Rhonda Giguere the league’s co-ordinator. “But we try not to encourage that and instead bolster fair play and sportsmanship.”

The league’s sign-ups started off with a boom, twelve teams registered within the first half-hour on Sept. 16 attracting students both new and old.

Second-year architecture technology students Jeff Stanley and Nevin Shulist registered Cashflow, their floor hockey team.

Stanley who has always played hockey attributes the fact that he really “wanted to do something within school,” and the fact that it “perfectly fits my schedule” as the main reasons for registering a team.

While Tim Stark, a first-year pre-service firefighter education and training student, said he registered because “it will keep me in shape for my program.”

The large turnout was no surprise to Giguere, who has been involved with the league for 18 years.

“Every year sign ups have increased since I have been looking after the recreational league.”
