Do I need any previous experience in woodworking?
No, you don’t need any previous experience to be successful. All you need is a desire to create, attention to detail, and the tenacity to work through challenges.
How much time is spent in the shop?
Students spend at least 12 hours each week in the wood shop. You will start by learning how to use hand tools, and then move on to powered shop equipment and CNC machines
Do I need to bring my own tools?
No, everything you need, including tools and materials, will be provided. All you will need to bring is a pair of safety shoes.
How long is the program?
The program runs for three consecutive semesters – a full year from September to August.
Do I need a computer?
As a mobile learning environment engaging our students in collaborative e-learning, students become skilled with technology used in the workplace. Students will need a computing device that meets the specifications outlined in our program. Please visit the BYOD page for computer specifications for our program.
What type of job can I expect after graduation and what type of work will I be doing?
An entry-level Cabinetmaker can be responsible for meeting with clients and educating them on materials and design choices. They take measurements and create kitchen layouts and build cabinets and counters. They then deliver and install the products at a client’s location and make adjustments as need.
