For Charae, financial support wasn’t just help—it was affirmation she was on the right path.

CharaeCharae was on her way to work when she got a notification on her phone that made her burst with joy: she had received a financial aid award.

“Perfect timing,” she said. “It was my first paid gig as a live audio technician after months of shadowing experts and assisting at venues as a volunteer. Receiving that award felt like a powerful affirmation that I was on the right path.”

Charae is keeping busy during her time at Algonquin College. A natural leader and go-getter, she’s the student representative of the Music Industry Arts program and manages her own business, Rhythm with Rae (RWR), to offer technical services, talent management, and coaching to music creators.

This past summer, Charae also presented her first solo artist show, “Meow! That’s Hot.”

The best part is that she’s doing all this while earning high marks and maintaining a strong academic performance.

“Receiving financial aid helped me avoid burnout so I could stay fully engaged in my program and in my community,” said Charae. “Financial aid gives students the freedom to grow without the constant weight of financial stress. It validates our efforts, opens doors for us, and fuels long-term impact.”

After she graduates, Charae looks forward to staying rooted in Ottawa to perform locally and support local artists.
