Sophia’s connection to the arts has been profound, having participated in multiple theatre productions and previous photography classes. Her move to Algonquin College was a deliberate step towards honing her craft and acquiring new skills essential for a successful career in photography.
Without the support of the school and the people around her, Sophia would have faced barriers in acquiring the necessary tools and equipment vital for her journey as a photographer. Sophia believes that support is more than the sum of dollars given, “For a person who is considering [contributing to] a bursary, award, or scholarship, they are giving to the people who are working to go into careers that make them happy and will contribute to the future generation of workers. And a helping hand is always something someone new to the workforce can have to aid them.”
