New Department Website Template Opt-In
The Web Team is thrilled to announce that the new and highly anticipated templates for department websites are almost here! Three new templates will be launching within the department collection:
- Department Landing Page – for the homepage of any department website (e.g., algonquincollege.com/studentsupportservices)
- Department Level 2 Page – a secondary landing page that can be directed to from the website homepage for special circumstances only, as approved by the Web Team (e.g., algonquincollege.com/studentsupportservices/accessibility)
- Standard/Default Page – for all other pages within a website
These templates offer a multitude of new/refreshed features and design, incorporating feedback from you (our clients), and supporting varied layout options to offer flexibility for departments while aligning to our brand and providing a consistent/familiar experience for end users. Each template has a different set of available features.
These new templates will enhance accessibility and improve the user experience for both end users (our learners) and Website Content Teams. Some of the new/refreshed features to get excited about within the collection include:
- Dynamic counter and icon highlight options
- Feature cards and horizontal icon cards
- Prominent call-to-action (CTA) buttons and wide image with CTA
- Banner system with scheduling option
- Assorted video layouts
- Assorted content layouts
- Photo gallery
- Testimonial and quote blocks
- Quick links, news feed and events feed
- Assorted contact options
All department websites will need to migrate to the new templates by March 31, 2026. BUT, we’re hoping you’ll opt in sooner to get the latest and greatest our website has to offer and make sure our website visitors have the best experience possible. To that end, we asked department website Content Teams to opt in ahead of the final deadline, via a webform, by August 9, 2024. The first round of opting in early has ended, but there will be another opportunity shared in the winter term.
The Web Team will review submissions after August 9 and create a schedule that prioritizes learner-facing sites first. Website Content Teams will be responsible for all content migration and set-up, with technical support available from the Web Team as needed. WordPress training surrounding the new templates will need to be completed by all members of the Website Content Team for any one site before that site can move forward. Further details will be provided when the schedule is confirmed.

Thank you for your interest in opting in early to migrate your department website to the new template collection. We are currently working with those Website Content Teams who opted in during the first opt-in window. We will re-open the opt-in form in the Winter 2025 term.
