History of the Student Experience Survey

The Student Experience Survey was developed by the Institutional Analytics and Planning department in June 2020 as a way to connect with students on their remote learning experience and how the pandemic was impacting them. The data collected each term allowed the college to pivot and focus additional student support and resources where needed for the balance of the Spring 2020 term and in preparation for future terms.

Two years later, the Student Experience Survey is still being administered in the Fall and Spring terms. It has evolved into an essential college-wide survey that still helps ensure supports and resources for students are where they need to be, but now also provides additional information to inform cross college priority settings, with continuous improvement to support the success of all learners at the forefront.

    • How academically connected you feel at the college

    • awareness of resources

Why are we asking you to complete this survey? What do we do with this information?

Algonquin College’s core values of Caring, Learning, Integrity and Respect have never been more important. It is within the Caring core value that we have a sincere and compassionate interest in the well-being of our learners to ensure they have the support and resources to succeed. This is precisely why we conduct the student experience survey twice a year (Fall and Fall). We want to check in with you and find out how things are going and what we can be doing better as an institution through our supports and services.

Once the survey is complete, we compile the responses, explore any trends, analyze the data to better understand where improvements can be made, and whether there may be specific groups of students or services that need more support. We take these findings and share them across the college with various departments for them to be able to leverage the findings to enact change, when appropriate.

This survey is key to ensure that developments and initiatives within the college are student driven.
