School of Business and Hospitality Contributes to National Conversation on Workforce Readiness

Strong industry partnerships are essential to ensuring that education remains aligned with the evolving needs of employers and the workforce. The School of Business and Hospitality had the opportunity to strengthen those connections while contributing to an important national discussion on the future of Canada’s food and beverage manufacturing sector.

Dean Cory Haskins represented the School at the Food Processing Skills Canada (FPSC) Parliamentary Reception, joining industry leaders, educators and government partners from across the country. The event provided an opportunity to discuss workforce challenges, emerging labour market trends and the skills needed to support the continued growth of Canada’s food and beverage manufacturing industry.

Food Processing Skills Canada plays a leading role in labour market research, workforce development and skills training for the sector. Through events such as the Parliamentary Reception, FPSC brings together key stakeholders to explore innovative solutions that support workforce readiness and strengthen talent pipelines across Canada.

Participation in these conversations reflects the School’s commitment to building meaningful partnerships that connect academic programming with real-world industry needs. By working closely with employers, sector organizations and industry leaders, the School of Business and Hospitality helps ensure students graduate with the knowledge, skills and experiences needed to succeed in a rapidly changing workforce.

“We value our partnership with Food Processing Skills Canada and the important work they do to advance skills development across the sector,” said Cory Haskins, Dean of the School of Business and Hospitality. “Opportunities to engage directly with industry and government partners help inform our programs and strengthen pathways that prepare learners for meaningful careers.”

The School of Business and Hospitality looks forward to continuing its collaboration with Food Processing Skills Canada and contributing to national conversations that help shape the future of workforce development in Canada.
