Alumnus Adrian Salamunovic receives Communicator of Year Award from IABC Ottawa

Adrian Salamunovic, Co-Founder of DNA 11 and CanvasPop and grad of the Business Marketing program, has been selected as the recipient of the Communicator of the Year Award, awarded by the International Association of Business Communicator’s (IABC) Ottawa Chapter.

DNA 11, a company that creates personalized artwork from DNA, fingerprints and kiss prints, generates more than $1 million in direct sales annually as a result of its public relations efforts; accounting for nearly 20 per cent of the company’s gross revenue. Started in 2009, CanvasPop produces high-quality canvas artwork with customers’ digital photos from sites such as Instagram. In a time where ‘monetization’ seems to be to the end game, both DNA 11 and CanvasPop favour a steady approach using communications, marketing and engagement.

“Effective communication is more important than ever with so many brands competing for attention,” said Salamunovic. “Fortunately, having a truly remarkable product – and a great team – helps tremendously, and throughout my career I have had both. Our communications team is born and bred here in Ottawa and we’re proud to be recognized for the international reach we’ve been able to achieve.”

Several Algonquin grads work at both Salamunovic’s companies.

Salamunovic was recognized at the IABC Ottawa 2012 Excel Award Gala on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at The Westin Ottawa.
