Ken Rosehart BAB(eSCM) 2007 graduate

I am proud to be a member of the first graduating class to earn a Bachelor of Applied Business – e-Business Supply Chain Management from Algonquin College. One of the best choices I ever made was to come to Algonquin to take this program. One of the main reasons I chose to enroll in the Bachelor of Applied Business (e-Business Supply Chain Management) program at Algonquin College was because of the three terms of paid co-op placement that each student completes as a part of the program. My co-op experience was fantastic – I now work for Canada Revenue, the same organization where I did my co-op terms. The job market is excellent. Many of my classmates walked right into jobs after graduation. In fact, there is a competition among businesses to hire grads because there are more positions than grads to fill them.

I started the Business Marketing program in the fall of 2010 when I was 25 years old. I was a bit nervous and had no idea what to expect. Don’t want to sound cliché, however it turned out to be one of the best things I’ve ever done. I thoroughly loved to learn and looked forward to attending every single class and never missed a-one.

My professors were once the Marketing industry’s top performers and chose to become educators to guide and train the leaders of tomorrow. The professors were thoroughly committed to their students, and it was evident that they had a passion for teaching.

Today, I’m working in the high-tech industry and what I learned in the Business Marketing program is spot on to industry practices. I have endless contacts with peers, professors and industry leaders and have built relationships that will last a lifetime.

“It was my great pleasure to work with several students from the Algonquin Green Business Management program in the 2010-2011 school year. The students approached me early in the fall to see if I would be interested in an energy audit and other green practices reviews of my business. We agreed to work together initially on this smaller project. Their professionalism and enthusiasm were evident from the beginning. They successfully completed the requirements of their course and provided me with useful feedback about current operating systems and equipment and how I could upgrade to more environmentally-friendly ones at reasonable cost.

Given the excellent work they did on this first phase, I eagerly agreed to work with a larger group to complete a full business plan, including marketing and financial plan for my start-up business. They worked diligently with me over many months, completed several surveys and reviewed all my existing operating procedures and financials. I found them to be trustworthy, reliable and helpful. The project leader, David Mazur-Goulet was exemplary in his commitment and always followed through on his tasks and timelines.

At the end of the year the students provided me with a 50 page complete business plan as well as market studies and other supporting materials. This information provided me with greater insight into both where my business is at and where it could go. I will be using the material they researched and wrote for me to plan an expansion of my business and eventually to obtain financing.

I can highly recommend the students of the Algonquin Green Business Management program to other entrepreneurs.

After completing a University degree I found that I was lacking the hands on experience required in today’s competitive job market. I decided to complement my degree with a diploma in Business Marketing. After completing this program and joining the workforce I found that everything I learned directly translated to my new role. Leaving the security of an educational environment can be a very difficult transition and I was fortunate that I came armed with hands on experience working with real clients. Additionally, all of the group work helped me to understand how to work better with others and the continuous presentations helped me to perfect this skill. I am grateful to all of the professors at Algonquin who put in so much energy to ensure that their students truly benefited from their experience. I would recommend this program to anyone who is looking for the skills necessary to be competitive in today’s job market.

Want to know what the best thing about Small and Medium Enterprise Management (SME) is? The depth of knowledge. Knowledge is power, and power is the ability to make a difference. Sure, SME has opened doors for me and forwarded my career – but the best thing, by far, is being able to help other people with my knowledge. For my friends and family that are opening or running businesses, SME has given me insight to help and support them. It’s great to be confident and competent in the business world. But nothing feels better than knowing that what you do can make a difference in the lives of the people who matter to you.
