Joining the Small and Medium Enterprise Management program was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made and provided the foundation for me to develop as a business professional. What I remember most is the life lessons and stories from the professors: Life Skills and Marketing with Phil Jones, Entrepreneurship and Business Finance with Ron Knowles. E-Business with Laurie Logan, Tradeshow and Business Plan with Adrienne Armstrong. The professors, my classmates, and the overall life experience is what makes SME an exceptional program. It’s a safe bet to say if you graduate from this program; it’s highly likely you will have success as a business professional.

Director General, Material Systems & Supply Chain – DND

The Distribution Resource Planning (DRP) project has been very successful with the co-op student initiative. We are very fortunate to have some students in the division from the Algonquin College Bachelor of Applied Business – e-Business Supply Chain Management program who are involved with the project. They participated in the training for DRP in September and are now putting into practice what they learned. The students have a strong background in the basics of statistics, forecasting and inventory management, which is making it easy for them to transition to the use of DRP. We also have a former student who joined us as part of the co-op program and is now a DND employee who is also involved with DRP. The supply chain is a key part of the transformation currently underway throughout the department. We’re looking at new technologies, new processes and a new way of doing business to make the supply chain the best it can be so that the men and women in the field can have the materiel they need in the most cost-effective and efficient way. The success the division is having with the co-op program for DRP clearly shows the value of this type of initiative – both from the perspective of the department and the students. As we go through the transformation process we need innovative solutions to advance the defence supply chain. Through our student bridge initiative these students have the potential to join the workforce when they finish the program and continue contributing to the division. The department and the CF would benefit greatly by having their talents and enthusiasm.

I vividly recall my last few months of high school as my teachers repeatedly told the class that post secondary teachers will not care about you and will no longer provide guidance throughout the learning phase. When looking for a post secondary institution to enrol in I was looking for a faculty that would prove them wrong and I have found just that in the Algonquin College Business Marketing program. In my opinion the foundation of any program is its faculty; it does not matter to what standard the program is held in if you don’t have the caring and supportive faculty teaching it. Thankfully I chose the marketing program provided at Algonquin College.

I will start with the educational material provided in the course; all Algonquin School of Business faculty are industry professionals with years of experience. It means that every day you get taught by people who walk the walk and not only talk the talk. I would much rather have the professor who worked in the industry rather than the one who wrote a theory paper on it. Along with the great educational material you receive you also get the opportunity for co-op internships with top companies, I was lucky enough to work in a team for Corel Software. The education and experience you receive from working on a real plan for a real company and product is invaluable.

At Algonquin College you are also able to work with teams as well as having the option to take on lead roles such as team leader, project manager, treasurer, book keeper etc… This is crucial for the business world as you come out with not only the great education but the experience you have built through working in teams during the entire program.

Lastly I would like to speak of the staff and how they truly care about your success. My personal experiences with great program heads such as Bill Garbarino and Noni Stukel along with many other program faculty has been very beneficial in helping me find placements, continuing my education and of course getting connected with the business world. The professors at Algonquin College truly do care about your success and will do everything they can to help you advance in your education and career. From Noni being an incredible influence and pushing you to strive further with the block transfer agreement to all the work that Bill does in order to get graduates and current students real paying jobs you know you chose the right education. Bill strives to ensure all marketing students have opportunities to attend networking events and fun moral building activities outside of school that really build your relationships with your fellow students and staff. Not enough can be said about the entire Business Marketing faculty, you truly have to see it for yourself to believe it.

Thanks to all the staff I have had the opportunity to develop marketing plans with many top companies while I continue my education. Not only that, Algonquin also gives you the opportunity to earn a degree in half the time afterwards through the many agreements they have with universities all over the world including Australia.

Enough said, if you are looking for an institution that cares, gives great hands on learning and provides you with opportunities for careers and continuing your education than you have found just that at Algonquin College.
