Marissa Gagnier, Class of 2010

I started the Business Marketing program in September of 2008 and I really did not know what to expect. As time went on, I realized how passionate I was about Marketing, but this was only through the help of the amazing mentors that I had along the way. I always felt respected and guided throughout my experience at Algonquin. It wasn’t until third semester that I really started to realize my true potential, and wouldn’t have been able to do so without the knowledgeable staff, as well as the student groups I found myself working with. This program has given me so much, and I feel like I walked away with a lot more than just a diploma. I walked away from Business Marketing with real world experience, something that not very many 2 year programs give you – as well as the reassurance that my time was well spent. I thank all of my teachers for guiding me through this process, and even when things felt overwhelming – they were the first ones there to reassure me. I feel as though my experience at Algonquin has turned my life around and given me the opportunity to attain my dream job. I still keep in touch with the majority of my professors, and I plan on doing so for a long time. This really was the best experience of my life.

Anna Dombrovska, Class of 2010

After graduating the from a 2 year Business Marketing program at Algonquin College, I was hired for a full-time marketing coordinator position. My job description as well as my daily duties fully corresponds to the knowledge and skills I have obtained during the studies. Every piece of knowledge starting with questionnaire design and ending with a marketing plan creation happens to be very useful, amplified with the practical skills gained in the teamwork and client projects. My experience convinced me that the cornerstone that increases employability and helps making a good career start is communication. Second is professionalism that includes reliability and time management and, last but not the least, the ability to apply knowledge and experience gained in the marketing projects. I appreciate the choice of the courses, the practical components and training in technology, social media and online marketing that the program includes and would recommend a 2-year Business-Marketing program to others.

Ryan Mooney – Graduate

The Business Marketing program at Algonquin College was essential in my pursuit of a career path. It taught me how to make SMART goals for myself and showed me how to put them into practice by selling myself to potential employers. Learning the proper business writing and presentation techniques automatically puts an individual into a better light in the eyes of an employer; these are skills that are conducive in any career. The teamwork that the program offered as well as the aspect of client management really was a great experience not only on a collegiate level, but on working environment level as well. I can honestly say that the program put me on the right path and has led me to an entry level position within the government here in Ottawa. I can only hope that more and more individuals take advantage of this program and the knowledgeable staff who have years of experience in the field and put what they have to give into practice, it can only be beneficial.
