Director General, Material Systems & Supply Chain – DND

The Distribution Resource Planning (DRP) project has been very successful with the co-op student initiative. We are very fortunate to have some students in the division from the Algonquin College Bachelor of Applied Business – e-Business Supply Chain Management program who are involved with the project. They participated in the training for DRP in September and are now putting into practice what they learned. The students have a strong background in the basics of statistics, forecasting and inventory management, which is making it easy for them to transition to the use of DRP. We also have a former student who joined us as part of the co-op program and is now a DND employee who is also involved with DRP. The supply chain is a key part of the transformation currently underway throughout the department. We’re looking at new technologies, new processes and a new way of doing business to make the supply chain the best it can be so that the men and women in the field can have the materiel they need in the most cost-effective and efficient way. The success the division is having with the co-op program for DRP clearly shows the value of this type of initiative – both from the perspective of the department and the students. As we go through the transformation process we need innovative solutions to advance the defence supply chain. Through our student bridge initiative these students have the potential to join the workforce when they finish the program and continue contributing to the division. The department and the CF would benefit greatly by having their talents and enthusiasm.
