Coat of Arms Design Statement

Algonquin College created a Coat of Arms that symbolizes we are an educational institution with a 50-year history, distinguishing us from the many private business colleges that come and go.

Formed in 1967, Algonquin College is the largest college in Eastern Ontario with three campuses—Ottawa, Pembroke and Perth. The Ottawa campus, located in Canada’s Capital, is connected to the Ottawa Valley campuses by the Ottawa, Rideau and Tay rivers.

ABORIGINAL ROOTS:

Algonquin College is named after the First Nations Peoples who first inhabited the Ottawa Valley.

DIVERSITY:

Algonquin College has a diverse population of approximately 20,000 full-time students. Algonquin College is committed to creating a culture in which diversity and equality of opportunity are encouraged.

PROUD OF OUR ATHLETICS:

The Algonquin Students’ Association offers a variety of varsity and athletic programs designed to enrich the educational experience and promote healthy lifestyles. Our teams are called the Algonquin Thunder and a lightning bolt is used in the Thunder logo.

ALGONQUIN AROUND THE WORLD:

Algonquin is an established provider of international education. In addition to the 1,200+ international students studying at our Canadian campuses, Algonquin has campuses in Kuwait, and international partnerships based in China, India, and Montenegro.

WORKING TOWARDS SUSTAINABILITY:

Algonquin is committed to teaching and living sustainability, and is actively taking responsibility for the social, environmental and economic wellbeing of our world. Four of Algonquin’s buildings are LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) accredited.

ALGONQUIN IS GREEN:

The darker “Algonquin Green” is a colour that is strongly associated with our college. In addition, a brighter, supporting “New Growth Green” is used to help create a sense of energy, opportunity and new growth.
