#1 Small class sizes with a big impact
Once you walk in, you’ll be glad to see that the class sizes are built for collaboration. With smaller class sizes, you’ll be able to ask your burning questions, feel more engaged in class, connect with your fellow classmates and get a more personalized learning experience.
You’ll also be able to develop professional relationships with real industry experts. Students are taught by exceptional professors; many of whom are field experts and work in the industry they are teaching about. They take the time to get to know their students and empower them to reach their full potential.
#2 Unique programs
Algonquin College has all kinds of programs to choose from ranging from the new accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Honours) to Social Service Worker or Applied Nuclear Science & Radiation Safety to Outdoor Adventure or Environmental Technician to Urban Forestry – Arboriculture. There’s something here for everyone. Enjoy an immersive experience blending academics and the great outdoors. As a bonus, programs have work-integrated learning built right into the curriculum.
#3 Hands-on learning opportunities
One of the best ways to learn is by doing and there’s plenty of that here. If you thrive off practical experience and simulated work environments, the Pembroke Campus is the place to be. Students can hone their skills before they graduate from the school’s first-class environmental technician lab, nursing simulation lab, personal support worker lab, mobile research lab, carpentry shop, outdoor learning spaces and more!
As a bonus, the Pembroke Campus is in close proximity to large local organizations like Canadian Nuclear Laboratories, Garrison Petawawa, Algonquin Provincial Park, Petawawa Research Forest and more.The hands-on learning extends to the real world with lots of different co-op opportunities to choose from. These placements are a great way to build a strong network, learn from experts in the field and maybe land a permanent position after graduation.
#4 Community and support
AC’s Pembroke Campus fosters a sense of community! It’s easy to feel like you belong and to make friends with other students here. The Commons and The Landing are the most popular hotspots for folks to socialize, grab a bite and relax.
The campus is also a place where creativity is encouraged and inclusivity is paramount. If you ever feel overwhelmed or need help in any capacity, we have your back. From counselling and tutoring services to financial aid and health services, you will always have someone to lean on.
#5 The stunning views
What’s better than a warm breeze and soothing waterfront views? No seriously, we can’t think of anything better than this. AC’s Pembroke Campus is home to one of the most serene scenes in town. The outdoor seating options and 1.5 km walking trail make this the place to be when summer hits (but it’s just as jaw-dropping in the colder months).
The campus building is filled with natural light and decorated with beautiful plants; the space feels like an expansion of the land it rests on. With study spaces overlooking the Ottawa River known as the Kitchissippi River (Kichi-Sìbì) and bordered by a gorgeous forest, exam season is no match for the calm and serene vibes this place has in store.
