Crisis Management and De-escalation Techniques Training

Course: GEN0352

Algonquin's hybrid Crisis Management and De-escalation Techniques (CMDT) training program (provided through Behaviour Management System), emphasizes the prevention of disruptive behaviour and non-physical interventions, promptly addressing and diffusing anxious, hostile, or violent behaviour safely. Key strategies include a thorough understanding of the subject matter, responding to early warning signs or indicators, and recognition of behaviour levels in a crisis. Additionally, the program explores personal safety techniques like avoidance, releases, and blocks. Containment methods including restraints are integrated with calming and de-escalation techniques. This six-hour long hybrid training consists of asynchronous self-paced content and in-person physical training, which provides a two-year certification.

Notes

This training is open to everyone. You do not need to be an Algonquin College student to register. The sections below have been designed by BMS for students and workers in the health care field and contain case studies set in health-care workplaces and information about pertinent legislation. While the course is healthcare focused it does contain all the essential information about preventing disruptive behaviour using de-escalation techniques.
