Mandatory Clinical Placement Requirements

To be eligible for clinical placement as a Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography student, you must complete and submit the following program specific requirements:

1. Medical and Non-Medical Requirements:

Screening for immunity to certain diseases and verifying that your immunizations are up to date is a requirement of this program.

Please note:
This process usually takes a minimum of 2 -3 weeks to complete, but may take up to 8 weeks based on your immunization history.

As the COVID vaccination rollout continues, in case you also require any other vaccinations or TB testing, please be advised of the guidelines below:

  • As recommended by the National Advisory Commission on Immunization (NACI) COVID-19 vaccines should not be given at the same time as other vaccines. There should be a period of 14 days after administration of other vaccine before receiving the COVID-19 vaccination. Once a dose of COVID-19 vaccine is administered there needs to be a waiting period of 28 days prior to receiving other vaccines.
  • TB testing can be completed any time prior to administration of COVID-19 vaccine or 28 days post COVID-19 vaccine dose.

2. Police Records Check Documentation:

It is your responsibility to obtain the PRCSVS from your local Police Department prior to the start of the program by Term 1 September 30th and to pay any associated costs. It may take a long time to obtain this documentation; please submit your application as early as possible. You will be required to disclose the contents of the PCRSVS, including all notations, to the lab placement agencies. You can request a letter of confirmation of registration to the Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography program for your PRCSVS through Rose Marie Di Bucchianico dibuccr@algonquincollege.com or Sherri Pagnan at pagnans@algonquincollege.com.

3. Proof of Covid19 Vaccination:

Proof of Covid19 Vaccination: Required for program labs to be submitted by Term 1- September 30 via “Placement Pass” by ParaMed

4. Clinical Placement Eligibility:

Successful completion of clinical placement is a requirement for graduation from the Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography program. To be eligible to participate in clinical placement activities, you must complete ParaMed requirements and submit:

  • Proof of a clear (PRCSVS)- annual requirement- Term 1 Sept 30th and Term 2 March 1st. You may be required to disclose the contents of the PRCSVS, including all notations, to the placement agencies.
  • Evidence of Standard First Aid certificate which is valid for a three (3) year period and a Health Care Provider (HCP) CPR C and Automated External Defibrillation (AED) Certification in order to attend any clinical practice which must remain current for each academic year of your program until graduation. Please note that CPR certification course is specifically designed for Health Care Professionals, course provides training on skills required for Adult, Child, & Infant Resuscitation; One & Two Rescuer, First Aid for Choking, proper use of barrier devices in resuscitation, AED and Bag Valve Mask. Please note that on-line CPR courses do not meet the re-certification standards required for your program. Must be submitted by Term 2 – March 1st.
  • A Health Assessment Form and provide an Immunization Certificate. Applicants must have complete immunization including Hepatitis B, and annual T.B. test (a Chest X-ray is required if the T.B. test is positive) and are required to have annual immunization for influenza by some clinical affiliates to be submitted by Term2 – March 1st
  • All ParaMed Clinical/Field Pre-Placement Health requirements to be submitted by Term 2 – March 1st. Applicants must have complete immunization including Hepatitis B, and annual T.B. test (a Chest X-ray is required if the T.B. test is positive) and are required to have annual immunization for influenza by some clinical affiliates.   • Evidence of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) and Ontario Health and Safety Awareness (OHSA) Training certification. These courses meet program requirements are free to registered students and can be accessed through the Algonquin College website: https://www.algonquincollege.com/safety-security-services/home/occupational- health-and-safety/health-safety-training-resources/ to be submitted by Term 2 – March 1st
  • Proof of current Non Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) training–Some clinical affiliates require a yearly proof of NVCI training to be submitted by Term 2- March 1st
