Appointment of Cathy Frederick as Vice President, Human Resources

After an extensive and comprehensive search, I am delighted to announce the appointment of Cathy Frederick as Vice President, Human Resources. Cathy’s first day at Algonquin will be August 24, 2015.

In addition to being a Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL), Cathy is bringing to Algonquin an extensive background in human resources management from both the public and private sector. For the past six years, Cathy has served as the City of Ottawa’s Director of Human Resources, leading the organization through the creation of a Corporate People Plan and developing a Human Resources technology roadmap to guide the City’s ERP implementation. Cathy and her team transformed the City’s HR Department, introducing innovative new approaches to succession planning, employee wellness, and workforce analytics. In recognition of her contribution, Cathy was the recipient of the 2013 City Manager’s Award of Excellence for Leadership.

Prior to joining the City of Ottawa, Cathy served as a Senior Manager at Deloitte and Touche, working in the consulting practice to help organizations introduce new HR service delivery models, recruitment strategies and employee training programs. Cathy has also worked at as a Senior Consultant at Watson Wyatt International and as Director of Human Resources at the Ottawa-Carleton Regional Police Service.

In the community, Cathy served as Co-Chair of the City of Ottawa’s United Way Campaign. Currently, she is the Vice-Chair of the Queensway-Carleton Hospital Board of Directors.

Cathy holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree from Carleton University and is also a member of the Ontario Human Resources Professional Association. She is fluent in both English and French.
