College Named a National Capital Region’s Top Employer for the 8th Year in a Row

Dear Colleagues,

I am thrilled to announce that Algonquin College has been named a National Capital Region’s Top Employer for the eighth year in a row.

Canada’s Top 100 Employers is an annual competition organized by Mediacorp Canada Inc. that awards exceptional workplaces on both a national and regional basis. Algonquin College has won an award in the National Capital Region category every year since 2014.

This is an exciting and meaningful achievement for Algonquin. One of the foundational goals in the College’s Strategic Plan is to be recognized as an exceptional place to work by our employees – and that is precisely what this award is about.

We are constantly seeking ways to improve the employee experience at the College. In 2017, we drafted our first-ever People Plan, an initiative complementary to our Strategic Plan that was developed to help us reach our goal of becoming an exceptional employer, with a focus on innovation, personalized development and continuous improvement.

At Algonquin, we strive to anticipate employee needs and meet challenges head on. Case in point, we were the first college in Ontario to adopt an Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Policy. We have also demonstrated this through our ongoing commitment to Truth and Reconciliation, and embedding Indigenous Knowledge in everything we do as an organization. Last year saw us launch The Culture Book, a dynamic project that collected stories written about employees, for employees – and we revamped the training site for our Centre for Organization Learning.

When the pandemic hit, the College created a detailed health and safety plan for those employees working on campus, and created innovative resources for those working from home – including an Employee Toolkit from Human Resources and academic supports from Learning and Teaching Services.

More than anything, this award speaks to the efforts of each and every one of our employees. It is your continued dedication to our students, your colleagues and the entire College community that drive our unique, inclusive and dynamic culture. You inspire the College to keep building on our strengths and finding ways to do better.

In a year in which the COVID-19 pandemic created unprecedented change in how we live and how we work, it is more important than ever to celebrate our successes as a College. The things that make us such a special team. The things that connect us. Motivate us. Empower us.

We will be recognizing the honour of being recognized as a Top Employer with our upcoming AC Engage Event, which is a day of activities focused on connecting, sharing, celebrating and getting inspired as a community.

Thank you to everyone at the College who makes this such an incredible place to work.

Kind regards,
