Study Permit Information

Starting November 8, 2024, approved study permits will now name a Designated Learning Institution (DLI). If your study permit explicitly names another DLI, you must apply and be approved for a new study permit that names AC before starting your studies. If your study permit has no DLI named, refer to “I hold a study permit I received when applying to a DLI other than Algonquin College.”

Additional Considerations:

You may require an updated Co-Op/Internship Work Permit naming Algonquin College to complete work-integrated learning.
You will require a Provincial Attestation Letter for any future study permit extensions.

Study Permit Information

Starting November 8, 2024, if you are changing post-secondary Designated Learning Institutions (moving from another post-secondary institution to Algonquin College), you must apply for and obtain a  new study permit by applying to extend your current one before starting studies at Algonquin College.

IMPORTANT! If you were accepted to Algonquin College for Winter (January) semester, you can start studying at Algonquin College if you:

Have been accepted to Algonquin College for the Winter semester, and
Have applied for a study permit extension with a Letter of Acceptance from Algonquin College (or updated an existing study permit extension application by submitting your Algonquin College Letter of Acceptance in the IRCC web form), and
Have a current study permit that remains valid and that doesn’t have any DLI name printed on it, and
Meet all your existing study permit conditions

If you meet these criteria, you can attend Algonquin College while your study permit extension is being processed.

To be eligible for a PGWP after completing a program at Algonquin College, you must meet the field of study requirement by completing a PGWP-eligible program.

You must apply for and receive a new study permit naming Algonquin College before you start studying at Algonquin College.

Based on study permit processing times, you may need to defer your admission to a future term. To defer your admission to a future term, request a deferral using the International Admissions portal, MyAC 360.
If you are not enrolled in a program of study, you must remain compliant with study permit conditions. IRCC supports authorized leave of no more than 150 days before changing to visitor status.
You can only start studying at Algonquin College while waiting for a decision on your study permit extension application in specific, exceptional circumstances.

To be eligible for a PGWP after completing a program at Algonquin College, you must meet the field of study requirement by completing a PGWP-eligible program.
