Important IRCC Information

As you may be aware, the Government of Canada announced on January 22, 2024 significant changes to the Canadian International Student Program, including a reduction in the number of new Study Permits which will be issued as well as changes to the eligibility requirements and duration of the Post Graduate Work Permit Program (PGWP), and eligibility for Spousal Open Work Permits.

Algonquin has started issuing Provincial Attestation Letters (PAL) for New Accepted Students who have not yet submitted their Study Permit Application

A new requirement has been established for anyone who submits their study permit application after January 22, 2024. After this date, all applications for study permits must be supported by a Provincial Attestation Letter, or PAL, from the Provincial government. .

Algonquin College makes the requests for PALs to the government on behalf of students. Applicants who require the new and mandatory document, please fill out our Fall 2024 Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) request form. You only need to fill-out the form ONCE. We will record the request on your file, and upload the PAL once we receive it on the application portal (check with your agent if you have one).

Algonquin College Programs (Ottawa, Perth, Pembroke) are still eligible for PGWP

All programs delivered at our Ottawa, Perth, and Pembroke campuses will continue to provide eligibility for the Post Graduate Work Permit program. We are also confident that, if you have been provided a Letter of Acceptance for either or Spring 2024 or Fall 2024 intakes, your seat at Algonquin College remains secure provided that you have paid your tuition deposit fees prior to the deadline found on the Letter of Acceptance and have a valid study permit before starting your studies.

Students already in Canada on a valid Study Permit

Students currently in Canada who are applying for an extension to their study permit will not be impacted by these changes.

Students who applied for a Study Permit prior to January 22, 2024

In addition, students who submitted their study permit application prior to January 22nd, 2024, will also not be impacted.
