Algonquin College Signs Agreement with ANUP and ANUT

On May 20, 2015 Algonquin College signed a Letter of Intent with Mexico’s National Association of Polytechnic Universities (ANUP) and National Association of Technological Universities (ANUT). This agreement will serve as a starting point to explore further opportunities for collaboration between Algonquin Colleges and ANUP and ANUT.

In conjunction with the signing, from May 18th-20th, Algonquin hosted representatives from nine of ANUP and ANUT’s institutions. Fruitful discussions were held regarding opportunities for collaboration between our respective institutions. We look forward to continuing our discussions with ANUP and ANUT and expanding our cooperation and engagement with Mexico, a country that is an increasingly important partner to Canada.

Visit from TecMilenio Las Torres

In April 2015, Algonquin College received the visit of colleagues from TecMilenio Las Torres, in Monterrey Mexico to discuss partnership and study abroad opportunities for our respective institutions. The group visited several cities and institutions in Ontario and Québec, and was very impressed with Ottawa, as well as our campus, infrastructure and programs. We look forward to continuing our discussions with TecMilenio to expand cooperation and exchanges with Mexico, a country that is an increasingly important partner of Canada.

Algonquin College Signed a Letter of Intent with Libya

Algonquin College signed a Letter of Intent with the Higher Institute for Comprehensive Careers/ Sebha (HICC) in Libya on October 31st 2014. The agreement focuses on a faculty development training program and English as a Second Language training for staff and students of the institute.

Mr. Ernest Mulvey, Director of International Education Centre (IEC), signed the agreement for Algonquin College, and Dr. Ali Elwafi signed for the HICC. Dr. Basam Al Hasoo, Manager of Partnerships and Programs for the Middle East, attended the signing ceremony.

 

Korea National University of Education Teachers Pursue Professional Development at Algonquin’s Ottawa Campus

Algonquin’s International Education Centre and the Language Institute are excited to host thirteen practicing teachers from the Korea National University of Education and their chaperone for a 4-week visit this summer. The Korean teachers are participating in a professional development program from July 21st to August 16th, to improve their skills as Teachers of English as a Foreign Language.

Teachers from the Korea National University of Education enjoy a college meet-and-greet and a sample of Algonquin College’s hospitality in the form of a buffet luncheon On Saturday, our visiting Korean teachers expanded on the educational value of their trip by taking in the most famous landmark in Ottawa – Parliament Hill.

The program will combine academic instruction with cultural activities and our guests will have a wide variety of opportunities to experience educational and cultural events during their stay. They will be bringing their newly-acquired skills and their personal experiences back to their classrooms in Korea, as they pursue professional excellence.

 

Teacher Training Program Delivered in Shanghai

DSC_9929Rebecca Volk, Manager, Centre for Organizational Learning, delivered a teacher training program from July 14 – 18 in Shanghai to a group of around 30 vocational school teachers from Shanghai and other provinces in China. Algonquin signed a Letter of Intent in 2012 with the consortium of 6 vocational schools in China to promote faculty and students exchange programs. In this program teachers learn how to apply their understanding of how adults learn in order to manage the learning environment and to sustain the motivation and engagement of learners.

IEC Explores Professional Development Opportunities with Turkish Delegates

IMG_0084The Director of the International Education Centre, Ernest Mulvey and the Manager of International Partnerships and Programs, Basam Al-Hasoo met with members of a Turkish delegation that visited Canada from June 22-27. The meeting was held at the Turkish Ambassador’s Residence in Ottawa.

Discussions with Dr. Osman ŞİMŞEK from Namık Kemal University and Dr. Yener YÖRÜK from Trakya University were centered round the best ways to involve Algonquin College in providing Professional Development Programs for the staff of both universities and exchanging students with AC.

Plans are in place to continue extensive discussions after Ramadan between the two Turkish Institutions and Algonquin College.
