Visa and Work Permit Information
Students going abroad may require a visa or work permit to do so. Students should consult with their host organization and the Embassy or High Commission of the country to which you are travelling.
The Government of Canada has negotiated bilateral reciprocal arrangements and agreements with countries around the world to offer travel authorization and temporary work permits for up to one year for students and youth completing internships and looking to gain work experience abroad. Information on these arrangements can be found at International Experience Canada
Research Your Destination
As you assess your options for an international experience and once you determine where you will be going it is important to learn about the country to which you will be going. You will want to research things from weather and currency to cultural expectation and norms and health precautions. Below are is a list of resources you may find useful.

International Experience Travel Award
Awarded to a Canadian or Permanent Resident full-time student undertaking an international education experience outside of Canada and the United States of America. International experiences include faculty or Algonquin College staff-led international education opportunities; and paid or volunteer work experiences with profit and not-for-profit organizations.

1 – 8 days* international placement | $350 |
9 – 30 days* international placement | $600 |
31 – 48 day* international placement | $1000 |
49 days* or more international placement | $1500 |
* Number of days indicates the time frame from the start date until the end date of your international experience. This should be indicated on a letter from your host organization, company or school. This does not include any travel to, from, before or after the confirmed experience abroad.
