WHAT IS THE CLASSROOM SPACE RACE?

The intention is to provide a fun, social way for participants (faculty and students) to provide feedback on their teaching and learning experiences within classrooms across the College.

  • Participants will meet up in the incubator classroom at 10:00 am.
  • Similar to a scavenger hunt, participants can choose to pair or group up to visit a minimum of 2 classrooms (in different buildings) that they’ve had courses in.
  • Members will be able to compare and contrast their experiences in different classrooms with each other while considering ideas that could improve the learning and teaching experience.
  • Each group will have a checklist to capture general feedback related to classroom design features. Groups are also encouraged to take pictures of notable classroom design features and email those to lts@algonquincollege.com.
  • Participants will reconvene in the Incubator by 12:00 pm noon to submit their checklists and photos, enjoy some refreshments, and share highlights. We will have a focused discussion to explore key themes and ideas for improvement.

HOW TO WIN THE CLASSROOM SPACE RACE

Individuals and teams will be assigned points according to the following:

-completeness of checklist submitted by group/individual
-classroom visits were to a minimum of 2 classrooms — in two different buildings; bonus points if visited classrooms in more than 2 buildings and had complete checklists
-extra points for pictures taken of classrooms

Teams/individuals with the top scores will be eligible to win gift certificates from the Algonquin Spa, Salon, Connections, or from Restaurant International.

WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?

We are attempting to collect information in various ways (including fun ones) from faculty and students about their teaching and learning experiences within classrooms at Algonquin.

Information collected through this and other activities will be summarized and provided to College Space Planning committee.

The effort is intended to provide more ways for faculty and students to provide input to answer these two questions:

1) Are there enhancements that could be made to our classrooms to improve the learning experience? 2) What should our classroom improvement priorities be?
