Lesson 5 – Summary

Module 3 challenges us to think about representation. In the past, UDL focused primarily on ensuring we provided students with multiple formats of our lessons. UDL 3.0 points out that today we can provide educational materials in digital formats so that students can have more agency, and share the responsibility for customizing displays to match their unique needs. But we are also encouraged to consider “multiple representations” through the lens of identity (CAST, 2024). This means appreciating that our students’ backgrounds, cultures, and identities shape how they experience the world and interpret those experiences. As a result, we should share many perspectives when we teach.
