Proctoring Reports

How to view reports and recordings

Quick Start Guide (PDF): How to View Honorlock Results

You can go to Honorlock and click on Results to see the proctoring information associated with learner exams.

  • Incident level: Learner exams will be given an incident level of either high (red), medium (yellow) or low (green), and you will have access to the recordings for every student (click on “View Session” next to their names).
  • View Report: In the top right corner, you will have access to a report, outlining all of the high and medium level flags that the AI picked up on during the exams.

How you treat these reports is completely up to your own discretion. Before making any decisions about what to do after reviewing these reports, it might be a good idea to consult your Chair to see whether your department is following any standardized guidelines or approaches.

Here are some recommendations about what to look for:

Low incident level (green)

Reports marked with a low incident level only need to be reviewed if something seems suspicious when you are grading their exam.

Medium incident level (yellow)

Reports marked with a medium incident level should be reviewed briefly – check the nature and frequency of any repeated behaviours that pop up in their reports to determine whether anything was amiss.

Typical ‘medium’ level flags include:

  • Test window focus lost – when students navigate away from the test to another window or software
  • Face not clearly visible – potentially related to light levels or the student leaning away from the camera
  • Speech detected: general – typically this is students reading questions aloud to themselves

High incident level (red)

Reports marked with a high incident level should be reviewed more carefully – navigate to the red alerts in the report, review the students’ interactions with the live proctor if any occurred, and determine whether a follow-up conversation might be needed.

It’s worth noting that while they may be reported as “high” incident, it’s very likely the incidents the AI picked up were innocent occurrences, particularly for ‘Speech Detected’ incidents.

Typical ‘high’ level flags include:

  • Obstruction of webcam
  • Phone in use
  • Additional people detected in the room
  • Student left the room
  • Speech detected: general – these violations may be students using academic dishonesty ‘keywords’ when speaking aloud
