Overview

This College Certificate program combines technical and creative aspects of the rapidly-expanding field of digital video creation and editing. Through extensive guided practice, students plan, shoot and edit professional-quality video productions for the online environment. Students practice and apply the features of leading software programs, such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Audition and After Effects, to edit video and audio files, as well as to implement special effects.

This program is intended for communications, marketing and PR professionals who seek to build their multimedia skills. It is also well-suited for a general audience interested in using digital video creation and editing skills to enhance professional or recreational projects.

Given the increasing use of video on today's devices, there is a growing interest in producing polished video products. Using current software that provides broad support for file-based and DSLR footage, students are introduced to non-linear video editing and composition. The focus is on the basic steps of the editing process, from acquiring digital media, to editing with a timeline-based interface, syncing audio and finally exporting the resulting video product to the web.

Description

Given the increasing use of video on today's devices, there is a growing interest in producing polished video products. Using current software that provides broad support for file-based and DSLR footage, students are introduced to non-linear video editing and composition. The focus is on the basic steps of the editing process, from acquiring digital media, to editing with a timeline-based interface, syncing audio and finally exporting the resulting video product to the web.

Notes

This course is taught in a computer lab, with Adobe Premiere software loaded on the computers. Students will be required to bring their DSLR camera or camcorder and an external hard drive to store images. Students are required to have video editing software at home to work on assignments.  You will need a home computer and at least a 2 month subscription to Adobe Premiere Pro. This is not a BYOD course, and the software subscription for 2 months is $90.
 
The teacher will discuss this in greater detail at the first class.

Fees for part-time programs are charged on a course-by-course basis and are published on each individual course page. For questions related to fees, please call the Registrar`s Office at 613-727-0002.

Graduation Fee
Once you have completed all the courses in the program, it is the responsibility of the student to complete a credential application. A graduation fee is charged when the application is submitted. After your credential application has been approved, you will be invited to Convocation.

Students will be expected to bring a camera (capable of recording video and audio) or camcorder plus a tripod.

Students must provide a means of backing up digital content such as an external hard drive ($30 - $200).

While most classes take place in computer labs on campus with software provided, students are encouraged to obtain Adobe software for their own computers to be used outside of class hours.

Admissions Requirements

All applicants must satisfy both College Eligibility and Program Eligibility requirements.

College Eligibility

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, OR
  • Mature Student status (19 years of age or older and without an OSSD).
