AC Online
How does online learning work?
- All coursework is completed online: Students must have access to a computer with reliable Internet and must be comfortable working with technology. NOTE: in addition to online theory courses, some programs may require in-person work integrated learning experiences such as placement or field projects.
- Online learning is self-directed: Students are expected to follow a calendar to work through course materials, readings and assessments each week. Skills such as time management, organization and independence will be vital to your success.
- There are no lectures or mandatory synchronous (live or virtual) sessions: Students will be expected to read through course materials supplemented with videos, interactive online tools, and required readings in textbooks.
- Courses are supported by a course facilitator: Students work through the course materials independently – these are not professor-led courses as you would find in the traditional way via an in-class, face-to-face setting. Facilitators are available to support student questions providing clarity via email, discussion boards, announcements, grades and feedback on assessments.
- While flexible, online courses will still have set deadlines and expectations: Students are able to log in and complete coursework on their own schedules, and there are no pre-determined login times or timetables. Courses are accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. However, there are pre-determined deadlines for all readings, course work and assessments that must be completed on time to be successful.
Is there an online orientation?
For further information regarding getting started in your online course or program, please visit our Online Orientation webpage. You should review this orientation information before your first day of classes.
Who can I contact for online learning support during my course(s)?
- Facilitators can provide support for questions related to the course material (i.e., quizzes, lessons, assignments, etc.)
- Student Success Specialists can provide support if you are falling behind and feel you may require additional support, please reach out to Student Success Specialists by email.
- Student Advisors, if you are a full-time student, your Student Advisor can assist with questions about your program of study and course load as well as refer you to other support services.
- Program Support Officer, if you are a part-time student, your Program Support Officer can assist with general questions you may have as well as refer you to other support services.
