Support for the Canadian Armed Forces

Algonquin College’s Pembroke Waterfront Campus has many students who directly connect to the military community.

Recently the Pembroke Campus Dean, Sarah Hall and the Commander of Garrison Petawawa, Colonel Jason Guiney signed a memorandum of collaboration that will lead to more partnerships between the college and the military community. This will include more opportunity for current and exiting military members, veterans and military spouses to learn more about the programs and services that are available to them at Algonquin College, as well an annual Canadian Armed Forces Day at the Pembroke Campus.

Personal Support Worker Info Session

Start your Personal Support Worker Career this January!

Learn more about the January 2019 intake of the Personal Support Worker Program offered in Renfrew! Join us for an information session on:

  • Wednesday, October 10 at 6:30 p.m. at Bonnechere Manor, Renfrew.

Learn more about the January 2019 intake for our Personal Support Worker program delivered in Renfrew, ON at Bonnechere Manor. Bonnechere Manor’s Director of Long-Term Care, Shelley Sheedy, says it’s an exciting partnership, particularly for students. “Immersion in our home’s setting will ensure the students acquire the values required to work in a long-term care environment. Our residents and staff are very familiar with having Algonquin students on site and welcome this more integrated partnership,” says Sheedy.

An aging population has created significant career opportunities for our Personal Support Worker graduates. Algonquin College’s Chair of Health and Community Studies, Megan Conway, says the College’s top priority is to create programming opportunities that meet the demands of the labour market. “In this situation, we have a healthcare partner that is struggling to fill vacancies for Personal Support Workers and is willing to make space available to the college to deliver a program. This is a great example of a collaborative learning model that benefits the employer, students and the college. We are very pleased to offer this program in Renfrew where the need for highly trained PSW’s is great and currently unmet. ”

The information session will provide information on the courses that will be offered in the program, employment opportunities within the Personal Support Worker field, the application process, financial aid and services that support student success.
