Applied Research & Innovation at the Pembroke Campus

Applied Research at the Pembroke Campus focuses on innovation at the rural level, facilitating projects and partnerships with local community enterprises, industry, and organizations to support student success through projects demonstrating social, economic, and environmental sustainability. Over the years, projects have benefited a variety of sectors and college programs, with topics relating to environmental monitoring and agricultural best management practices, horticulture, outdoor education and tourism, healthcare and social services, graphic arts and web design, and prototype testing.

Our Purpose

Collaborate with industry and community to deliver on forward-thinking initiatives relevant and practical to regional needs while providing students with exceptional work-integrated learning opportunities that challenge, empower, and prepare students for future career success.

Martyna Tomczynski is a graduate from the Environmental Technician Diploma Program at Algonquin College’s Pembroke Campus. Martyna worked as an Environmental Technician Summer Co-op Student for the Office of Applied Research at the Pembroke Campus. Following graduation, Martyna was hired as a Agri-Environmental Research Intern for the Office of Applied Research through Colleges and Institutes Canada’s Natural Resource Internship program. Martyna is now completing her BSc. in Environmental Sciences at Royal Roads University in Victoria, B.C.

Megan studied Baking and Pastry Arts at Algonquin College’s Woodroffe Campus before beginning her journey at Algonquin College’s Pembroke Campus in the Environmental Technician Diploma Program. Megan worked as an Environmental Technician Summer Co-op Student for the Office of Applied Research and after graduation was hired as a Water Quality and Agricultural Best Management Practice Junior Specialist for the Office of Applied Research through Colleges and Institutes Canada’s Natural Resource Internship program. Megan grew up on a farm and also works for a dairy farm on the side!
