Bachelor of Science in Nursing Awards

The General Proficiency Award for Nursing
This award is presented to a graduating Bachelor of Science in Nursing student who has consistently demonstrated high academic achievement and who has provided efficient and conscientious clinical nursing care. The award was established in memory of Dr. I.D. Cotnam by his wife, Mrs. Cecelia Cotnam and Dr. Cotnam’s son, Dr. H.B. Cotnam. Dr. Cotnam, an active medical doctor in the city and area from 1910 until 1965, gave many nursing students the benefit of his knowledge and experience during his career.

The Lois Cahill Memorial Award
This award was established in memory of Lois Cahill, a graduate of the Lorrain School of Nursing. This award is presented to a graduating Bachelor of Science in Nursing student who has demonstrated excellence in clinical practice, the ability to work effectively as a team member, and who has been supportive of other students during the program.

Early Childhood Education Awards

The Children’s Garden Literacy Award
This award is presented to the graduate of the Early Childhood Education program who in class has demonstrated an appreciation of children’s literature and has shared insights about the value of literature.

The Renfrew County Early Childhood Education Program Director’s Award
This award is presented to a graduate of the Early Childhood Education program who has demonstrated an exemplary sense of compassion towards children and their families, co-workers and other professionals in the community.

The Wise Owl Day Care Award
This award is presented to the graduate of the Early Childhood Education program who has exemplified professionalism. He or she has done so by maintaining confidentiality, accepting children, families, peers and staff in a non-judgmental manner and having a genuine respect for uniqueness of families and individuals.

The Renfrew County Early Childhood Education Program Directors’ Memorial Awards
These two awards are in memory of RECEs Lisa Sharpe and Kim de Ruiter, who, for many years, showed immense passion and compassion towards children, families, coworkers and the early learning environments they worked in. This year, these awards are presented to two graduates of the ECE program, as selected by their professors, who have already shown outstanding dedication to the field of Early Childhood Education.

This award is presented to the graduate of the Police Foundations program who has achieved the highest academic standing over the three semesters of the program.

This award is presented to a graduate of the Practical Nursing program who has demonstrated strong leadership ability, excellent academic practice, professional and personal growth and an understanding of supporting their professional affiliation.

Social Service Worker Awards

The W.T. “Eldon” Craig Memorial Award
This award was established by Mrs. Craig in memory of her husband, Eldon Craig, a long-standing employee of Bell Canada, in recognition of the tremendous contribution social service workers provide in this community. This award is presented to the most outstanding graduate of the Social Service Worker program.

Personal Support Worker Award

The Pat Hern Excellence in Palliative Care Award
This award is presented to the graduate in the Personal Support Worker program who best demonstrates a love and dedication to palliative care. The award recipient provides exemplary and compassionate client-focused care that encompasses best practices and client and family values during the palliative stage of life. This award was established in memory of Pat Hern by her loving family. She was an avid teacher who received excellent care from Personal Support Workers during her palliative stage of life.

Applied Nuclear Science and Radiation Safety Awards

The Canadian Nuclear Society Award
The Canadian Nuclear Society Award is presented to a student who is a member of the Canadian Nuclear Society and whose marks are within the top 20 percent of the class. In addition, the student demonstrates an eagerness to learn about the diversity of the nuclear field, can educate the public on the benefits and safety of nuclear science and technology, and will help promote a responsible attitude to health, safety, and the environment while working in the nuclear industry. The award will be granted to a student who participates actively in class, demonstrates technical interest, possesses a superior ability in radiation protection, and exhibits excellent leadership and
teamwork skills.

Radiation Safety Advisory Committee Award
The Radiation Safety Advisory Committee Award is presented to a student who achieves the highest score in the final comprehensive performance evaluation and who has exhibited the most noticeable growth in his or her academic progress, attitude, and overall understanding in the Applied Nuclear Science and Radiation Safety.

This bursary is given to a graduating student in the Business program who has achieved excellence in business management principles and in the development of a comprehensive business plan.

This award is granted to the graduate of the Environmental Technician program who has demonstrated a strong commitment to academic achievement and has emerged as a leader in the promotion of environmental awareness.

This award is granted to the graduate of the Forestry Technician program who has achieved the highest academic standing throughout the program.

This award is granted to the graduate of the Forestry Technician program who has been exemplary in his/her safe work habits, including knowledge and abilities in fire control and forestry equipment, and has demonstrated a potential for leadership in the field and classroom.
