Attend our free info session talking about Better Jobs Ontario. This employment program offers up to $28,000 to help job seekers get the skills they need for in-demand careers.

Start learning the skills you need, our Better Jobs Ontario program can pay up to $28,000 in tuition and other costs for short-duration training that allow Lanark County job seekers to match skills with the needs of local employers who are hiring. Expanded from the former Second Career program, more applicants are now eligible for financial support, including individuals: on social assistance, self-employed, gig workers, youth, newcomers to Lanark County, laid-off, unemployed for over six months, and/or are part of a low-income household. Job seekers can apply for up to $28,000 for costs, including:

  • tuition
  • books
  • other instructional costs, including student fees, supplies and electronic devices
  • transportation
  • basic living allowance (up to $500 per week)

Additional funding may be available for childcare, disability-related supports, living away from home, Literacy and Basic Skills (LBS) and/or language training.

Community Employment Services in Perth is pleased to be a Better Jobs Ontario program assessment centre. We guide job seekers who are considering retraining for new employment within in-demand sectors. Our CES staff will help you explore new career possibilities and gather information to support your Better Jobs Ontario application to access up to $28,000 in educational training funds.

Working at Heights

Working At Heights in Perth

Preregister for Perth’s Working at Heights certification day. Learn about identifying hazards, ladder safety, fall protection, safety belts and more. This is mandatory training for all Ontario workers exposed to fall hazards on job sites. It is a full-day course, please bring a lunch. This certified instructor-led training is held in the Community Employment Services boardroom and 40 Sunset Boulevard in Perth. Guest instructor is Hannah Health & Safety Training. Seating is limited, sign-up and $150+HST ($169.50), payment in advance is required.

This training day welcomes participation from job seekers, members of the public, as well as employers and their employees.

Worker health and safety awareness in 4 steps certificate

This online certificate explains your rights and responsibilities on the job and tells you what Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) expects from your employer, your supervisor and you. These are things you need to know and understand so that you can be safe at work today and every day. One of your employer’s duties under the OHSA is to give you specific information and instructions about how to stay safe on your job. What you learn from this program will help you start to understand those instructions. We hope you will use what you learn here every day of your working life.

Health Care – Employability and Professional Skills
