About the Healthy Living Guide

AC Nursing Students

Hello Algonquin College Residence!

We are JamieLee, Emily and Sulma, and we are 4th year nursing students in the BScN Nursing program.

We were assigned to Algonquin College Residence in an effort to promote good infection control practices and to limit the number of students getting sick. With the help of Brittanie, your Residence Life Manager, and all of you, we were able to identify key areas like flu and STI prevention, good cooking and cleaning habits, and the factors that can contribute to you all getting sick which are directly related to life in residence and being away from home for the first time.

About the BScN Nursing Program

For those who would like to know more about us and our program, we are in the Algonquin-UOttawa Collaborative BScN Nursing Program. While we attend class at both schools, our degree is ultimately from UOttawa, and we will become registered nurses at the end of our program! Working in AC Residence was a part of our community nursing placement, one of our many clinical rotations that is an important part of the program. Did you know?

In the National College Health Assessment (NCHA), 20.6% of students reported sickness as having caused them to receive a lower grade in their courses/exams/projects, or even having to drop the course entirely. Use the information in this guide to help you not become a part of that statistic!
