Overview

Computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) software is used in a wide range of industries by architects, engineers, decorators, project managers and other design professionals. Our Computer Aided Design and Drafting College Certificate program gives you a theoretical and hands-on introduction to Autodesk`s comprehensive AutoCAD software so you can master 2D drawings and place diagrams into 3D perspective.

To qualify for this certificate, you must complete the program within three years.

Description

Explore mechanical 3D concepts using the 3D features in AutoCAD. Topics include the User Coordinate System, viewports, 3D specific system variables and Boolean operations. Students learn how to create and edit wireframe, surface, solid and mesh models. Visual styles, materials, lighting, rendering and walk-through animations are also covered.

Students enhance their basic AutoCAD skills to develop speed and accuracy in generating professional quality, two-dimensional CAD drawings in a quick and efficient manner. Emphasis is on practical methods and techniques to create, share and improve drawing efficiency. Students apply AutoCAD graphic and textual data manipulation, external data linking, real-world drawing management, scripting and software Internet utilities.

Description

Students learn the features and elements of computer-aided drafting using AutoCAD software. The focus is on practising the basic drawing and editing commands required to produce simple two-dimensional drawings. Topics include entering and using the drawing editor; setting up the drawing environment; constructing entities; editing a drawing; display control and zooming; drawing storage and retrieval; layer and line-type options; detailing; isometric drafting; blocks creation and exporting blocks; design centre; AutoCAD setup and configuration; xrefs; attributes and data extraction; and plotting of drawings and paper space.

Graduates may seek entry level employment opportunities as a junior draftsperson in architectural, construction or engineering firms. The skills may also be required in design-related fields such as interior decorating/design, exhibition and event management and facilities/property management.

Learning Outcomes

The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to:

  1. Use and integrate features of contemporary computer-aided design (CAD) software to draft basic working drawings.
  2. Assist in the preparation, reading, interpreting and revising of drawings and other graphical representations used in project proposal and design development.
  3. Adhere to CAD standards and procedures in accordance with principles and practices of professional CAD environments.

Graduation Fee
Once you have completed all the courses in the program, it is the responsibility of the student to contact the Registrar's Office to obtain a certificate/diploma application. A graduation fee of $22 will be charged when the application is submitted. When your certificate/diploma application has been approved, you will be invited to Spring or Fall Convocation.

Admissions Requirements

All applicants must satisfy both College Eligibility and Program Eligibility requirements.

College Eligibility

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, OR
  • Mature Student status (19 years of age or older and without an OSSD).
