What the Heck Is Disability? How to be a Better Disability Ally!

Dec 03, 2021 | 10:00am - 11:00am

It is currently estimated that 15% of the global population has a disability, that’s about 1 billion people living with some form of impairment or condition. And yet, when asked, many people without disabilities believe that they don’t know anyone with a disability or their understanding of disability is very limited.

In honour of the United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities, join this keynote where Elizabeth Wright will bust through many of the myths and stereotypes about disability, while also talking about why inclusion and accessibility are so important, especially in work and education. Elizabeth will include anecdotes from her own life, from friends, and the wider disability community. She will also tap into the ongoing impact of the global pandemic, making disability awareness even more crucial. Disability is not a dirty word and this keynote will empower you to feel more confident in your understanding and inclusion of disabled people in your life and organization.

This event is open to current Algonquin College students and employees. Advance registration is required due to a limited number of seats. You will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting after you have registered.
