Mamidosewin Hide Camp: Traditional Deer Hide Tanning Workshop Series

Learn the traditional art of tanning deer hides with Mamidosewin Centre! This hands-on workshop series, led by Tammy Cote (Algonquin from Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg), will guide participants through every step of transforming deer hides into soft, usable leather. No prior experience is required, and all are welcome to join.

  • Workshop 1: Fleshing the Hide – Date: Nov. 19 | Time: 10am – 12pm | Location: Ishkodewan Courtyard
  • Workshop 2: Dry Scraping the Hide – Date: Dec. 2| Time: 10am – 2pm | Location: Ishkodewan Courtyard
  • Workshop 3: Softening the Hide – Date: Dec. 3 | Time: 9am – 3pm | Location: Mamidosewin Centre
  • Workshop 4: Final Smoking of the Hide – Date: Jan. 13 | Time: 10am – 2pm | Location: Ishkodewan Courtyard

This workshop series is open to all. No experience needed!
