Join us for a hands-on workshop to explore the basics of wine and food matching led by world-renowned Sommelier, Véronique Rivest. This workshop includes simple, yet revealing exercises, to help you understand how different foods affect the flavours of wine and get a better grasp of interactions between wine and food. Tune in with your household!

You must be at least 19 years of age to purchase, possess, or consume alcohol in Ontario. Please note, wine tasting is not required — just watch, learn, and enjoy! This event is open to Algonquin College students, alumni, and employees.
Optional — Have these ingredients on hand for practical exercises during the event:
- A few lemon wedges
- One of the following: canned pineapple (or fresh but very sweet), wedges of very sweet apple, a little honey, maple syrup or plain sugar
- Salt or soy sauce
- A few leaves of radicchio, endive, or something else quite bitter
About Véronique Rivest
Véronique is one of the most respected sommeliers in Canada and abroad, with over thirty years’ experience in the hospitality and retail industries, in education and consulting. Canada’s Best Sommelier in 2006 and 2012, and Best Sommelier of the Americas in 2012, she placed in the top 12 at the World’s Best Sommelier Competition in 2007 and 2010. In March 2013, she became the first woman to make a podium at the World’s Best Sommelier Competition, by taking 2nd place.
In 2014, Véronique opened SOIF Wine Bar in Gatineau, Quebec, a place to share and learn about wine.
Named Wine Woman in Paris in 2007, Véronique is a talented speaker and writer, which has led her to teach, broadcast and write in many wine and food magazines, radio and TV programs, to give lectures and train fellow sommeliers around the world. She is the wine columnist for La Presse newspaper and the sommelier for Air Canada.
