Medicine Pouch Workshop
Sep 08, 2021 |2:00pm-3:00pm
In this DIY medicine pouch workshop, you will be sewing together a beautiful 3”x4” medicine bag created from locally sourced whitetail deer leather. The beading on the pouch is created by Anishinaabe-Kwe artisan Amanda Fox from Wiikwemkoong First Nation. The medicine pouch is a traditional Indigenous pouch worn around the neck that contains objects significant to the wearer. In the Anishinaabe culture, there are four sacred medicines traditionally carried in the pouch, consisting of Tobacco, Cedar, Sage, and Sweet Grass.
You must register by August 27 to receive the craft materials, which will be shipped to you by the workshop date. Please note, participants must live in Canada to receive the materials. (Missed the registration deadline or don’t live in Canada? Not to worry! You can still join the event to listen and see the steps in case you want to try your hand at this creation at home.) After registering, you will receive a Zoom link so you can join the workshop.
Open to current students at Ottawa, Perth, and Pembroke campuses.
Presented by the Mamidosewin Centre.
