National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women

Dec 06, 2024 |12:00pm-1:30pm

December 6 is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. This day marks the 35th anniversary of the 14 young women who were murdered at Polytechnique Montréal in 1989 because they were women. This act of violent misogyny led Parliament to designate this day to remember those who have experienced gender-based violence and those who we have lost to it. It is also a time to take action, educate ourselves and our communities on gender-based violence, and to believe and support survivors.

Join us in the AC Hub (2nd Floor, Student Commons) from 12 pm-1:30 pm to hear remarks and take a moment to answer the question, “What actions will you take to contribute to a world without gendered violence?” This event will also provide attendees with an opportunity to learn about Project Lighthouse and the resources and support they provide to survivors of gendered violence.

We will also have white ribbons available. Wearing a white ribbon indicates your commitment to raising awareness and taking action to prevent violence against women and girls.

Open to all members of the Algonquin College community.

Presented by Project Lighthouse.

About Project Lighthouse: Project Lighthouse aims to shine a light on the topic of sexual violence and help you navigate healthy sexual relationships.
