Sisters in Spirit

Oct 04, 2024 |12:00pm-2:00pm

Join the Mamidosewin Centre and the Student Health & Wellness Zone for Sisters in Spirit on Oct. 4, from 12 pm- 2 pm, in the AC Hub! Your participation will help raise awareness for missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit individuals (MMIWG2S+).

During the first part of the event, community member and speaker Maria Jacko will join us to share her story, then we will co-create a banner that we will use at 1:30pm during our walk around campus to raise awareness.

Indigenous community members and concerned citizens gather for a vigil or peaceful walk every October 4 to honour the memory of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit individuals. Sisters in Spirit events take place in many communities across Canada, as well as internationally. The day is used to pay respect to the victims, raise awareness of the crisis, and call on governments to take action to address the racialized and gendered violence inflicted on Indigenous peoples in Canada.

Open to all Algonquin College students and employees. No registration is required.

Presented by the Mamidosewin Centre and the Student Health & Wellness Zone.
