Third Thursday: Placemaking with Ottawa Entrepreneurs

Sep 17, 2020 |12:00pm-1:00pm

Join us for our monthly Third Thursday Speaker Series! The September panel discussion, on the theme Placemaking, features three Ottawa entrepreneurs: Sophie Beaudoin from viens avec moi, Andrew Bassett from Little Victories Café, and Christopher Schlesak from North and Navy.

Each business transformed their store or restaurant into a destination: viens avec moi’s clothing, decor, and branding is inspired by the South of France; North and Navy restaurant transports their patrons to fine dining in Italy, with Bacaro Bar at the back of the restaurant; Little Victories Café transformed a space into a place by turning a shipping container in an alley to a beautiful café.

During the pandemic, each of these three businesses came together, utilized their network, and built partnerships to leverage their businesses.

Open to all Algonquin College students, employees, alumni, and the public. Advance registration is required. You will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

About Sophie Beaudoin (viens avec moi)

Renée Morra and Sophie Beaudoin first opened viens avec moi’s doors in 2011 in a little house in trendy Wellington West. In 2019, Renée and Sophie decided to embark on a new journey, focusing on viens avec moi’s e-commerce business and relocating to the Glebe. The boutique stocks everything from business casual to night out, jeans to dresses, t-shirts to sweaters, bags to boots and shoes, skin care products, accessories and much more. They have their own line of clothing, and stock from local and world marque brands.

About Christopher Schlesak (North and Navy)

Adam Vettorel and Chris Schlesak opened North and Navy on February 18, 2015. The dishes served at North and Navy are inspired by northern Italy while using the best available Canadian and Italian products. NoNa prepares its own delicious fresh pasta every day and they also cure their own in-house salami. The fine-dining restaurant is located on Nepean Street in an old 1800’s Victorian home. The Chic décor makes it an ideal location for an evening out.

About Third Thursday

Third Thursdays are conversations that spark ideas and create community at Algonquin College. This year in our virtual edition – we challenge you to tune in on the Third Thursday of every month in a new location, in your home. We challenge you to transform your space into a place and we’ll bring inspiring innovators from inspiring places to you – virtually. Let’s explore this new reality, together. Students, employees, alumni, and community partners can forge meaningful connections while learning from each other.

The Third Thursday community is story-driven, curious, and collaborative. We’re not afraid of perspective shifts or pushing the envelope. We skip the small talk and dig deep into topics that matter. We’re here to fuel dreams through dialogue and turn passion into purpose. Come and be part of the story.
