Who should apply for this program?
If you have an interest in working with children or adults with disabilities then this might be the program for you. Graduates work with people of all ages, with varying degrees of disabilities, in a variety of settings.

How many people are accepted into the program each September?
Our first year enrolment is around 138 students.

What are the additional certifications/training offered in the Developmental Services Worker program?
Additional certifications/ training attained in the program are Workplace Safety Training, Medication Administration Training, Quality Assurance Measures Certification, Introduction to Sign Language, Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI).

What field placements are included in the program?
The program provides students with experiences in four different placement settings. Students participate in field placements for 2 days/week in the second term, and, 3 days/week for the entire second year of the program..

Can you get a job in the field while taking the program?
Many students do choose to work in the field while completing the program. Annually the programs host a job fair on campus where 35-40 potential employers participate. Job opportunities are regularly posted for students in the program.

What kinds of career opportunities are available when you graduate?
Graduates of the program may find employment in a variety of roles such as: educational assistant, developmental assistant, special needs worker, residential counsellor, employment specialist, life skills instructor, vocational instructor, support network facilitator, and family support worker. Work settings include elementary and secondary schools, private homes, recreation programs, community residences, adult life skills programs, and local businesses, agencies, and associations.

Are there pathway options to continue my studies? Are there any transfer agreements?
Post graduate certificates are areas of specialization you can pursue after graduation. i.e. Therapeutic Recreation and others. Many universities will recognize credits from this program towards degrees. Transfer agreements are available for you should you decide to continue your studies.
