What does a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist do?
Therapeutic Recreation Specialists work with and advocate for individuals facing key health issues, cognitive, physical and/or mental health challenges across the lifespan from children, youth, adults to seniors in a variety of settings such as hospitals, long-term care, community-based programs, and mental health agencies.

What is the average hourly rate?
Average hourly rate is $31/hour for a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist.

How is the program delivered?
Course delivery in this program is purposefully designed to be student-centric and flexible. All fall and winter courses are delivered using the “Flexible Synchronous” method where students receive a timetable and can choose to attend any of their classes either “in-person” on campus or using web conferencing. All courses include participation activities for all students whether they are in-person or attending via web conferencing. The spring/summer semester is a full-time, unpaid placement.

Where do the field placements take place?
The field placements take place in hospitals, long term care facilities, rehabilitation centres, municipal community programs and mental health agencies.
