It’s Getting Cold: Youth Homelessness and Victimization
Dec 11, 2014 |10:00-12:00
Life for young people on the street is tough. There is a direct link between being young and homeless – and criminal victimization. Youth often become homeless because they are victimized. Left to survive on the streets, homeless youth are more likely to be physically and sexually assaulted. Being homeless can interfere with relationships, education, employment, community involvement and other factors that can protect youth from becoming victims. In the face of adverse conditions, social exclusion and oppression, many young people who experience homelessness show tremendous resilience.
Crime Prevention Ottawa is hosting none other than Dr. Benjamin Roebuck, Coordinator, Victimology program, to speak on this topic at Ottawa City Hall on Friday, December 11 from 10 a.m. until noon. Congratulations Ben!
