Alice B. Aiken, PhD, MSc, BScPT, BSc(Kin)


Alice Aiken photoDr. Alice Aiken is the Director of the Canadian Institute for Military and Veteran Health Research, a unique consortium of over 20 Canadian universities dedicated to researching the health needs of military personnel, Veterans and their families. She is an Associate Professor in the Physical Therapy Program of the School of Rehabilitation Therapy at Queen's University in Kingston, Canada. She does health services / health policy research in the area of innovative models of care and disability policy as well as novel methods of knowledge translation. She has a unique focus on military and Veterans in much of her research. She lectures in clinical orthopedics, and maintains a small clinical practice. Dr. Aiken is the Past President of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association. She sits on numerous scientific review committees and the editorial board of an international rehabilitation journal. She received her PhD and Master’s from Queen’s University in Kingston, her Physical Therapy degree at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia and a BSc in Kinesiology at the University of Ottawa. She also proudly served in the Canadian Forces for 14 years, first as a ship’s navigator in the Navy, then as a physiotherapist.
