Dear Students and Employees of Algonquin College:
At approximately five o’clock p.m. on Saturday, a fire broke out in the Minto housing project on Deerfield Drive, directly behind the College. Given the location and the belief that in all likelihood students would be affected, College Security immediately reached out to Minto officials to provide support. I was informed directly after this, and we have had Student Services, Security and Residence staff onsite throughout the evening.
I want you to know that we are here to help any and all students who have been affected by this traumatic event. Forty rooms in the Residence have been prepared for displaced students and arrangements are underway to ensure that students impacted by the fire will be able to adjust their exam schedule if required.
Any student requiring immediate support should contact College Security at 613-727-4723 ext: 5010. Support is available 24/7.
Finally, I want to express my sincere appreciation to all those Algonquin employees who without hesitation came to the aid of our students, including ensuring that new supplies and bedding were ready for folks as they entered the Residence. I am very proud of the way you jumped into action to comfort and reassure students and citizens who needed our help.
