Program Quality Review (PQR)

Program Quality Review (PQR) is a comprehensive self-study, scheduled every five to seven years. PQR Schedule

The program faculty and administrators are supported in conducting an in-depth review of the program to confirm what’s working well and to explore opportunities for meaningful improvement. The goal of the process is to identify curriculum changes and other actions to support the continued success of the program. PQR actions are implemented over two years and progress is reported on annually.

The PQR process is supported by the Program Quality Assurance team in Academic Development. A Program Quality lead is assigned to support the Faculty Team Lead and Chair (or Academic Manager) through the review. Before the PQR launches, the Program Quality Assurance team completes all of the set-up activities, including collecting and analyzing data and information, and preparing all of the curriculum documentation.

PQR Process

The review process begins with Orientation and a PQR Kick-off Meeting to review the process and discuss the current state of the program. Then the review moves through the following phases.

Stakeholder Engagement Information Analysis Guided Reflection Report Finalization
Faculty, students, and the Program Advisory Committee are engaged to ensure all stakeholder perspectives are considered. Program information, data, and course outlines are analyzed and considered through the lens of the stakeholder feedback and in consideration of best practices and policies. The process culminates in a Curriculum Guided Reflection, facilitated by a Curriculum Consultant. Changes to the program of study are proposed, informed by data and analysis completed during the review. Draft outcomes and actions are identified and reviewed with the Chair and Dean. The report is then reviewed by the Program Quality Assurance Committee (PQAC). Feedback is incorporated at the discretion of the program and the report is finalized, signed, and ready for distribution to program stakeholders.

The PQR report template includes detailed instructions, as well as tables and pre-populated sections, to facilitate completion. Additional templates are available to support multi-campus PQRs, cluster PQRs (two programs with significant shared curriculum), AC Online program PQRs, and degree PQRs. 2023-24 Single Campus PQR Report Template

PQR Implementation

PQR can result in minor changes or major changes to the program of study. Program change is supported by Academic Development.

The program Chair (or Academic Manager) and Dean complete all PQR actions, with support other departments as needed. PQR actions can be tracked and updated in the Program Lifecycle Management System (PLMS) at any time and updates are requested annually.
