FAQ

How do I get into the program?
Students must already be working in the field to enter the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic Apprenticeship program at Algonquin College. Students will attend three 8-week levels of 30 hours per week, of in-class sessions. The common core component introduces students to the mechanical cooling cycle and components, electricity, installation procedures, and oxyacetylene welding. In the intermediate and advanced levels, students study commercial refrigeration and air conditioning systems and controls. Seventy per cent of class time is spent learning theory, while the remaining 30 per cent is spent learning practical, hands-on skills in the College’s shops.

Where will I attend classes?
This apprenticeship program is offered in the Algonquin Centre for Construction Excellence (ACCE). The Centre offers 190,000 square feet of space that allows for all construction and related design programs to be housed in a single location. This inter-professional space will encourage collaboration between disciplines and offer many integrated and cross-program learning opportunities for students.
