The E-Volunteer’s Role

Cuso International is supporting 8 organic farms to explore the option of agrotourism as additional income source for their farms.

As an E-mentor, you would support our in-country volunteer, who has been working with the 8 farms for over 6 months carrying out a small diagnostic and action plan for agrotourism. Your role, as an experienced tourism professional, will be to meet regularly with her to discuss potential ideas, help work through doubts and roadblocks, and collaborate on her work plan virtually.

As an e-volunteer, you will:

– Meet on a weekly or bi-weekly basis to discuss the needs of the in-country volunteer. Your role is to mentor and provide insight, feedback and help guide the in-country volunteer through her placement.

– Read through the material developed by the in-country volunteer (diagnostic, action plan, volunteer workplan) to get acquainted with the context.

– It’s possible that the in-country volunteer will ask for references to proven and tested materials, resources that can be found online, it would be helpful if the mentor had knowledge of or interest in researching good materials on rural tourism development.

Essential Academic Qualifications:

– Degree or Diploma in Cultural Management, Tourism, Travel, Hospitality or a related field.

Essential Professional Background:

– Experience in rural tourism projects

– Experience in the tourism and travel industry

– Strong writing skills

– Experience with design and facilitation of workshops and non-formal education sessions

– Experience and familiarity with development of educational/learning material

– Sensitivity towards gender and generational equality

– Understanding of and sensitivity towards issues related to poverty

Volunteer Requirements:
